The Indian film industry has embarked on its most consequential cinematic endeavor: director Nitesh Tiwari’s two-part adaptation of the ancient epic Ramayana. Produced on a reported combined budget exceeding ₹4,000 crore, the project represents an unprecedented convergence of pan-Indian acting talent and Academy Award-winning visual effects technology.
The Vision of Producer Namit Malhotra
Speaking on the ambition behind the project, producer Namit Malhotra (Global CEO of Prime Focus and DNEG) highlighted the cultural imperative of presenting Indian heritage to international audiences with the highest caliber of cinematic artistry. Having delivered visual effects for Hollywood masterpieces such as Dune, Oppenheimer, and Blade Runner 2049, Malhotra’s vision is to make Ramayana the definitive global benchmark for Indian cinema.
A Faithfully Crafted Two-Part Epic
Rather than condensing thousands of verses into an abridged three-hour cut, Tiwari and co-screenwriter Shridhar Raghavan designed a two-part theatrical arc. Part 1, releasing on 5 November 2026, immerses viewers in the emotional, spiritual, and romantic origins of Prince Rama, culminating in the tragic abduction of Sita. Part 2, arriving in Diwali 2027, delivers the cataclysmic conflict across the ocean in Lanka.
